Madan Mohan Temple Vrindavan: Lesser-Known Facts About This Ancient Lord Krishna Temple
- Numerous well-known deities were transported to other parts of India for safety and protection during Aurangzeb's rule when he demolished all sacred temples and their deities. The original Madan Mohan deity was transported to Karauli, Rajasthan, during that time so that she would be protected from the attack. At the temple today, a Pratibha-murti, or duplicate, of the image is revered.
- It is thought that the primary Madan Mohan deity was discovered by Advaita Acharya in antiquity from the foot of an Advaita vata tree in Vrindavan. Over the years, Advaita Acharya imparted knowledge and gave Purusottama Chaube, who subsequently gave it to Sanatana Gosvami, the duty of worshipping Madan Mohan.
- The Madan Mohan Temple's origins can be traced back to King Vajranabh, the Great Grandson of Krishna, who founded it and a few other temples in Vrindavan 5000 years ago. Nevertheless, the temple vanished with time.
- Aurangzeb's attack on Vrindavan resulted in the destruction of the old temple's pinnacle, or Shikhara. As a result, Sri Nand Kumar Bose of Bengal constructed a new temple next to the old one down the hill in the early 19th century (the year 1819), since the original temple was unsuited for worship.
- The deity of Shrimati Radha Rani with Lord Madan Mohan was not present earlier. Given this information, Purushottam Jena, the son of Orissa's King Prataparudra, despatched two goddess Radha deities from Puri to be positioned alongside Lord Madan Mohan.
