The best time to perform the invocation is Sanyakal, a 2-hour and 24-minute window before sunset. Kalparambha is also known as Akal Bodhon, meaning untimely invocation of Goddess Durga. According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Rama performed Akal Bodhon before waging war against Ravana, seeking her blessings to rescue his wife Sita. This mythological event is believed to have started the tradition of Sharad Navratri and Durga Puja.

The three-day Durga Puja festival in West Bengal is a scaled-down version of the nine-day Navratri festival celebrated in other states. Navratri can be celebrated for seven, five, three, two or even one day, according to the religious texts. The purpose of the festival is still to ask Goddess Durga for protection and blessings, despite these changes.
