Mahesh Navami is a Hindu festival mostly celebrated by the Maheshwari group, and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to the ancient Hindu calendar, the event takes place on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksha, or the waxing phase of the moon, in the month of Jyeshtha. This year, Mahesh Navami will be observed on 15th June 2024.

Mahesh Navami 2024: Significance Of This Day 

Mahesh Navami is very significant in terms of religion and culture for the Maheshwari people and Lord Shiva's followers. One of the most venerated gods in Hinduism, Lord Shiva, is the subject of Mahesh Navami. It's a time to pay homage to and worship Lord Shiva, who is revered as the Almighty and the vanquisher of evil. Legend has it that Mahesh Navami commemorates the day that Lord Shiva saved the forefathers of the Maheshwari people. 

The Maheshwari community was founded after the saved hunters and their families abandoned hunting in favour of entrepreneurship. As a result, the community values the celebration especially as it commemorates their ancestry and kinship with Lord Shiva.

Mahesh Navami 2024: Rituals Associated With This Day 

In order to get Lord Shiva's blessings for wealth, success, and the elimination of impediments from their lives, devotees observe Mahesh Navami. They ask for Lord Shiva's mercy and the blessings of the gods by making prayers, carrying out rituals, and chanting mantras. 

On the auspicious day of Mahesh Navami, devotees of Lord Shiva adore Lord Mahesh and Goddess Parvati. Early in the morning, they get ready and begin hanging flowers around the temples. In order to bring pleasure into their life, it is also thought that newlywed couples worship Lord Mahesh and Goddess Parvati on this day.

Throughout the night, followers of Lord Shiva recite special mantras. In addition, a unique Jhanki is held in which devotees' houses get portraits of Lord Shiva. Additionally, prayers are also recited. Moreover, Yajnas are often carried out at devotees' homes. On this day, the significant Mahesh Navami practice of Rudrabhishekam is also carried out. When the Puja ritual is over, prasad is given to the devotees and Bhajan Sandhya is arranged in the temples. Towards the culmination of puja, aarti is performed.
