Hindus frequently have black, white, or saffron-coloured threads wrapped around their ankles, chests, and wrists, known as Janeu or Yagyopaveeta (white thread), or Kalawa/Mauli (red, saffron, orange, or yellow thread). Do you know the significance of these threads? Let us check them out further.
Mauli/Kalawa Significance In Hinduism
Hindu legend states that Lord Vishnu sent King Bali into the Patal Loka during his Vamana Avatar. It is believed that to grant Bali immortality, he knotted a red thread, or kalawa/moli, around his wrists. That marked the start of the custom of giving individuals long lives by tying red thread around their wrists. Three knots are usually tied while tying a kalawa on one’s wrist, and it should always be done with one’s palm facing up. The three veins, or Naadis, are located within your wrist, closer to the side of your hand.
Reciting the sacred mantras is believed to invoke the Sattvik (pure) state in humans and infuse optimism into the thread. It also wards against threats, illnesses, and adversaries in addition to shielding the person from negativity and negative influences.
Furthermore, it is believed that the devotee receives blessings from Tridevi, who includes Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Durga, and Tridev, who includes Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, by tying the Mauli.

Janeu Significance In Hinduism
Janeyu, also called Upanayana, is a holy thread that is worn around the shoulder of the wearer.
At roughly the age of twelve, the Janeyu ritual is carried out. It is a fundamental component of the Hindu belief system (shared by Brahmins). Earlier, it was used to signify a person's entry to the Gurukul. Additionally, it demonstrates that the guru has acknowledged the person receiving his teachings as a Shishya (student). The guru would guide the individual towards the path of wisdom and knowledge after accepting him as a student. Janeyu represents both spirituality and selflessness.
Black Thread Significance In Hinduism
Black thread is said to be an absorber of all evil according to sacred Hindu beliefs. It's frequently worn around the waist. Additionally, by enhancing digestion, it aids in controlling weight and waist circumference. If the thread we wear around our waist gets loose, it indicates we have lost weight. If it becomes tight, we have gained weight.

A black thread facilitates correct and easy bowel movements and strengthens the intestinal wall, which in turn aids digestion. Additionally, it enhances bladder and renal functioning. Furthermore, it strengthens the lumbar spine by offering support to that region. By holding onto the spinal fluid, the black thread on the waist manages issues such as slide discs, lower back discomfort, and spinal issues.
