Naraka Chaturdashi 2025 Date: Narak Chaturdashi, also known as Kali Chaudas, Naraka Chaudas, Roop Chaudas, Chhoti Diwali, Naraka Nivaran Chaturdashi and Bhoot Chaturdashi is a sacred Hindu festival that falls on the Chaturdashi (14th day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin (according to the Amavasya tradition) or Kartik (according to the Purnima tradition). It is the second day of the five-day Diwali festivities. According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Krishna and one of his eight wives Satyabhama, killed the demon Narakasura. People light diyas, make rangolis and perform Abhyang Snan on the sacred festival of Naraka Chaturdashi. This year, Naraka Chaturdashi falls on 19th October 2025.

Naraka Chaturdashi 2025: Significance
Narak Chaturdashi, also known as Chhoti Diwali or Roop Chaturdashi is an important part of the grand Diwali celebrations. The festival is celebrated with enthusiasm and devotion throughout the country. Its grandeur is palpable in North India, where the atmosphere is illuminated with lamps and lighting.
In South India and Maharashtra, Naraka Chaturdashi is marked with customary bathing. Goa observes the holiday in its own way. Large figures of Narakasura are made well before the holiday and shown in the streets all day. At night, they are burned, and the air fills with happiness.
In West Bengal, the festival known as Kali Chaudas is observed with a large puja dedicated to Goddess Kali. People put up elaborate decorations and offer special prayers. This festival represents the victory of light over darkness and truth over falsehood. The celebration of Naraka Chaturdashi encourages spirituality and a positive outlook, providing new direction and energy in our lives.
Naraka Chaturdashi 2025: Rituals
On Narak Chaturdashi, waking up early in the morning, applying a paste, and bathing is an important ritual. This is called "Abhyanga Snan," which provides relief from the sufferings of hell. It is believed that not bathing on this day leads one straight to hell. Applying kajal and mustard oil on this day helps ward off the evil eye. Wearing new clothes and decorating homes with lamps are also part of this festival. People worship Goddess Lakshmi and light lamps in their homes.
During Narak Chaturdashi, people worship Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera with special prayers. Some individuals fast and eat only after their prayers. People also worship Hanuman, offering flowers, oil, and sandalwood. The prasad usually includes rice puffs, sesame seeds, and jaggery.

During this festival, various dishes are prepared using freshly harvested rice, especially in Western India. Some people worship and offer food to their family deity.
