Papmochani Ekadashi 2024: Vrat Katha Of This Ekadashi
As per the legend, there was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva known as Sage Medhavi. He used to practise rigorous meditation in the Chaitraratha jungle, which was a magnificent place to be covered with flowers. Lord Indra and Apsaras were regular visitors to the Chaitraratha jungle. Apsara, also known as "Manjughosa," made several attempts to woo Sage Medhavi, but she was never successful because of the strength of his sobriety. Manjughosa began to sing while remaining a few miles away from the sage.
Lord Kamdev became delighted as she sang so exquisitely. Manjughosha became restless with lust after glancing at the sage Medhavi's appearance. Soon, she began to sing seductively. Kamdev used his strong magical arrows to direct Medhavi's attention towards Manughosha. Medhavi gave up on meditation because he was drawn to Manjughosha's allure. His mental chastity was lost. She had a long-lasting appeal that drew him in.
However, Manjughosha chose to leave the sage after many years of marriage since she no longer felt any attraction to him. Medhavi realised he had been duped when he requested Manjughosha to let her go. Medhavi, filled with rage, cursed her to turn into an ugly witch. Medhavi went back to the ashram of his father, Sage Chyavana. During Papamochani Ekadashi, Sage Chyavana requested Medhavi to keep a fast, promising to wash away his sins.
