Pitru Paksha 2023: The ‘Pitru Paksha’ is a significant period dedicated to our ancestors which comes every year. The tarpan and shradh ceremonies take place at this time. Hindus memorialise their departed ancestors throughout the two-week period known as Pitru Paksha during the Chaturmas season. It begins after the Full Moon day (Purnima Tithi) in the Ashwin month, which is also known as Krishna Paksha (per the Purnimant calendar) and Bhadrapada (per the Amavasyant calendar). The Pitru Paksha will begin on 29th September and will go on till 14th September. It is believed that ancestors come to meet their family during Pitru Paksha. If you see these signs around you during Pitru Paksha, it may mean that your ancestors are present around you. Some signs are considered auspicious while some may also be inauspicious.

Pitru Paksha 2023: Signs That Indicate The Presence Of Ancestors 

1. Self-Grown Peepal Tree At Home - A Peepal tree appearing unexpectedly in your home is a sign that your ancestors are around you. Additionally, it can indicate that your ancestors are upset with you. Instead of cutting down the peepal tree in this case, you should take measures to remove Pitra Dosh.

2. Appearance Of Red Ants - If a lot of red ants emerge in your home unexpectedly during Pitru Paksha and you do not know why, this could also indicate the presence of ancestors. It is believed that ancestors arrive in the form of ants to greet their family. In such a situation, you should feed the ants with flour. This gives peace to the ancestors.

3. Drying Of Tulsi Plant - In Hinduism, Tulsi is assigned a unique place. If your Tulsi plant suddenly starts to wither, it may also indicate the presence of ancestors. Additionally, it is an expression of the ancestors' dissatisfaction In this case, you should act to ensure your ancestors' well-being. During the 16 days of Pitru Paksha, recite hymns in honour of your ancestors while offering them water. 

4. Appearance Of A Black Dog - The sudden appearance of a black dog near your home may indicate the presence of your ancestors. It is believed that a black dog can be a messenger of ancestors. This sign is regarded as fortunate. It implies that your ancestors favour you.

5. Appearance Of Crow In House - In Pitru Paksha, the crow has significant importance. During Pitru Paksha, if a crow visits your home and eats food, it indicates that your ancestors are nearby and are bestowing their blessings on you. Therefore, during Pitru Paksha, food for crows should be prepared every day. By doing this, the blessings of your ancestors remain upon you.
