Kartik Purnima is one of the most significant full moon days of the year. However, due to the lunar cycle, Kartik Purnima and Kartik Nakshatra sometimes fall on different days. This rare occurrence happens once every few years. When this happens, the Tirukkartigai Deepa Thirunal festival is celebrated based on the Kartik or Karthigai Nakshatram.
