Sankashti Chaturthi August 2023 Significance
The Sankashti Chaturthi is a day dedicated for worshipping Lord Ganesha. On this day, Lord Ganesha is worshipped by his ardent devotees who observe a daylong fast until moonrise. The Vibhuvana Sankashti Chaturthi falls during the Adhik Maas, hence, it comes once in every three years.
There are two Chaturthi tithis in each Hindu calendar month. Sankashti Chaturthi occurs on the Chaturthi tithi following Purnima (full moon) in the Krishna Paksha (dark lunar fortnight). Vinayak Chaturthi is the name of the Chaturthi that occurs after Amavasya (the new moon) in Shukla Paksha (the bright lunar fortnight).
Each Chaturthi is celebrated in conjunction with a distinct peetha and different forms of Lord Ganesha. The peetha known as Durva Bilva Patra Peetha is worshipped during the Sankashti Chaturthi, which falls during Sawan.
