Sankashti Chaturthi, often referred to as Sankatahara Chaturthi, is considered to be one of the most auspicious days for fasting and offering puja. It is observed on the Fourth Day of Krishna Paksha of every Hindu lunar month. Two Chaturthi Tithis are included in the Hindu lunar calendar: one after New Moon Day (Amavasya) and one after Full Moon Day at some point in Krishna Paksha. Every Sankshti Chaturthi Vrat has a special meaning and significance attached to it. In the month of Chaitra, Bhalchandra Sankashti Chaturthi is being observed on 28th March 2024.

Sankashti Chaturthi 2024: Significance Of Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat
The meaning of the phrase Sankashti is "deliverance from difficulties," and it is believed that Lord Ganesha can remove all obstacles and problems. Sankashti Chaturthi, then, refers to the fourth day of the lunar calendar, which helps individuals overcome misfortune. Devotees keep the fast from sunrise to moonrise, breaking it with a meal following their prayers to the Lord. On this day, people worship Lord Ganesha as the "Sankashti Vinayak," who is revered as the Lord's incarnation and a helper in overcoming every obstacle.
Sankashti Chaturthi 2024: Rituals For Worshipping Lord Ganesha On This Day
- Devotees must wake up early, take a bath and vow to uphold the fast.
- Thereafter, perform lord Ganesha puja and offer Modak, fruits, paan patra, durva grass, roli, akshat and flowers. Worshippers must also perform Lord Ganesha arti.
- In the evening, it is customary to recite the Sankashti Chaturthi vrat katha.
- The fast of Sankashti Chaturthi must be concluded by offering Arghya to the moon and performing the evening puja of Lord Ganpati.
