Tirumala Srivari Pavitrotsavam 2025: The Srivari Pavitrotsava festival, celebrated annually at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, is a sacred purification ritual honouring Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. Observed on the Ekadasi, Dwadasi, and Trayodasi days of the Shravan month, this festival is known as the "festival of purification". Instituted in 1463 AD by Saluva Mallaya Deva Raja during Saluva Narasimha's reign, the rituals include special Thirumanjanam (holy bath) and Homam (sacrifice) ceremonies for the main deity and his primary idols. This ancient tradition continues to be an integral part of the temple's spiritual practices, seeking to purify and rejuvenate the divine energies. Tirumala Srivari Pavitrotsavam 2025: Significance

The Srivari Pavitrotsava festival commences with Ankurarpanam, a ritual performed a day prior, where nine types of cereals are sown in an earthen container, symbolising the festival's beginning. This sacred celebration holds profound significance as priests humbly seek the Lord's pardon for any omissions and commissions committed during the daily rituals throughout the year. By acknowledging potential shortcomings and seeking forgiveness, the priests aim to restore the sanctity and purity of their duties. Through this introspective ritual, they demonstrate their devotion and commitment to their sacred responsibilities, ensuring the continuation of traditional practices with reverence and precision. This meaningful ceremony underscores the importance of humility and spiritual accountability in the pursuit of divine service.

Tirumala Srivari Pavitrotsavam 2025: Rituals

DAY 1

The Pavitrotsava festival commences with a sacred Homam ceremony in the temple's Yajnasala, followed by a two-hour Snepana Thirumanjanam ritual. The Lord is bathed with sandalwood, turmeric, milk, curd, and honey, symbolising purification and rejuvenation. In the evening, Lord Malayappa Swamy is taken on a grand Ananda Yatra procession around the four Mada streets, drawing devotees from far and wide. The atmosphere is filled with devotion and excitement as the Lord's divine presence is celebrated. This majestic procession is a highlight of the festival, showcasing the Lord's splendour and majesty.

DAY 2

On the second day, Snepana Thirumanjanam is followed by the worship of sacred threads, known as "Pavitralu", which are specially woven from silk in five colours: black, blue, red, yellow, and green. These threads are tied to the Lord's head, neck, and waist, as well as to other deities and sub-temples. The threads are made from high-quality cotton grown among sacred Tulsi plants, adding to their spiritual significance. This ritual symbolises the Lord's connection with his devotees and the pursuit of spiritual growth. The sacred threads are a powerful symbol of devotion and purification.

DAY 3

The third day concludes the Pavitrotsava festival with a sacred Homam ceremony, followed by Snepana Thirumanjanam and special rituals. The festival culminates in a grand procession around the four Mada streets, showcasing the Lord's divine presence. The Poornahuthi ritual marks the final offering, symbolising the completion of the purification process. Participating in this festival is a profound experience, allowing devotees to express their reverence and devotion to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
