Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam: 7 Interesting Facts About Tirupati Balaji Temple

1. Know Why Lord Venkateswara’s Eyes Are Closed

In the contemporary Kalyug, the Tirupati Tirumala shrine is believed to be the residence of Lord Venkateshwara. Big eyes and a strong stare are two of Lord Venkateshwara's most well-known features. Devotees release cosmic energy, making it hard for them to stare directly into the eyes of the Lord. This is the reason why Lord Venkareshwara's eyes are hidden behind a white mask. The deity's eyes are tiny, therefore every Thursday the mask is altered to allow devotees to view them.

2. Mystery Behind Real Hair Of Lord Venkateshwara

Lord Balaji has lovely, silky, smooth hair that is devoid of tangles. Their hair is flawless because, during his reign on Earth, Lord Balaji abruptly lost his hair. As soon as she saw what had happened, the Gandharva princess Neela Devi chopped off a chunk of her stunning hair. In a gesture of courtesy, she offered the deity her cut hair, asking him to place it on his head. The deity received the thoughtful gift, delighted by her dedication, and pronounced that everyone who came to his temple and placed their hair at his feet would be blessed. Since then, shaving one's head at a temple either before or after one's wishes come true has been customary among devotees.

3. Sound Of Ocean Waves Behind The Deity Wall

It is said that if one places their ears up to the wall behind the wall where the idol of Balaji is positioned in the sanctum sanctorum, they would be able to hear the unique sound of the sea waves. This mysterious riddle is one of the most fascinating mysteries of the Tirumala Temple.

4. Black Of Lord Balaji Remains Wet

The back of the Balaji idol appears to be wet all the time. Despite the priests' futile efforts, Lord Balaji's back is perpetually damp.

5. Mystery of Lit Lamps Near The Idol Of Lord Venkateswara

The clay lamps put in front of the deity in the sanctum sanctorum of the Tirupati Balaji Temple are eternal, just like the light of a committed devotee's heart for the Divine. The time and/or person(s) who lighted these lamps are not known.
