Vaikuntha Chaturdashi 2023 Significance
On Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, devotees can fulfil all of their prayers and achieve Moksha (liberation) after death by fasting and doing ritualistic worship of the Lord. During Nishita Muhurta on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, which usually happens around midnight, Lord Vishnu is worshipped.
Following the custom, worshippers present one thousand lotuses to Sri Hari Vishnu and recite a thousand names of Lord Vishnu, also known as Vishnu Sahastranama. On the day of Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, prayers are offered to both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. There are two times during the day when this puja is done. Lord Shiva devotees choose to worship in the Arunodaya Muhurta, which is shortly before sunrise, while Lord Vishnu followers prefer to worship in the Nishita Muhurta, which is at midnight. Shiva devotees consider the morning bath at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi during Arunodaya to be extremely significant. On Kartik Chaturdashi, this day is known as Manikarnika Snan, and it is a sacred dip.
