India had a remarkable day at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou on Wednesday, shattering the previous medal tally record of 70, achieved at the 2018 Asian Games, by winning 81 medals, so far in this year's prestigious event.
India also clinched a stunning record for most gold medals in a single edition, with 18.
Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena put up amazing performances in the men's javelin throw final, winning the gold and silver medals respectively to add to the overall tally.
Despite an early setback due to technical difficulties, reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra successfully defended his title.

The men's 4x400m relay team won gold, upgrading last edition's silver in 2018 in Jakarta. The women’s 4x400m relay team, meanwhile, bagged silver.
Star athlete Avinash Sable once again was brilliant along with Harmilan Bains who won a silver each to double their respective medal tally at the 19th Asian Games. Harmilan’s silver in the women’s 800m emulated her mother Madhuri Singh’s achievement at the 2002 Asian Games.
The 35km race walk mixed team settled for bronze. The athletics medal tally is now at 29, the most for India in Hangzhou.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale also bagged the mixed team compound gold medal in Archery.
In Squash, Anahat Singh became India’s youngest medallist in Asian Games history. Saurav Ghosal won the semi-final and sealed his fifth consecutive Asian Games singles medal.
In Boxing, Lovlina Borgohain had to settle for Bronze as she suffered a defeat in the women’s 75kg boxing final while Parveen Hooda claimed bronze. Sunil Kumar opened India’s wrestling tally with a bronze in the Greco-Roman category.
India's men's hockey team continued their remarkable run and made it to the final after defeating the Republic of Korea 5-3 in the semifinals. The women's Kabaddi team qualified for the semis with a thumping win over Thailand.
PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy in singles along with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the men’s doubles made the badminton quarter-finals while Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out in the round of 16.
India went through to the men’s team bridge final as well on Wednesday, beating China in the semi-final.
