Asian Games 2023 Day 1 Highlights: India Bag Three Silver And Two Bronze On Opening Day

That will be all from Day 1 as India bagged a total of five medals, three silver and two bronze.

India's star boxer Nikhat Zareen defeated the World Championships silver medallist Vietnamese boxer Nguyen Thi Tam 5-0 to advance to the round of 16.

The Indian men's football team has advanced to the knockout stages but the women's team's campaign came to an end after a 0-1 defeat against Thailand.

India's women's cricket team has also made it to the final.

They will be disappointed for conceding the equaliser but will be very satisfied as the Sunil Chhetri-led Indian football team makes it to the Round of 16 with a 1-1 draw against Myanmar. Their only win so far came against Bangladesh.

After leading with 1-0 against Myanmar, India aims to expand their lead, while, Myanmar will focus on getting an equalizer.

India Rugby Sevens Women's team loses to Japan 45-0 in the Pool F encounter

The winning run of Taniksha Khatri came to an end as she faced a defeat with a score of 7-15 against Man Wai Vivian Kong of Hong Kong. 

In a brilliant display of skill, Indian fencer Taniksha Khatri defeated the fifth-seeded Uzbek, Shakhzoda Egamberdieva, with a score of 15-10. This victory secures her spot in the quarterfinals.

Khatri will also play alongside Arora on September 27 in the women's epee team event.

In the individual chess event, Koneru Humpy, D. Harika, Arjun Erigaisi, and Vidit Gujarathi all secured victories in their opening-round matches, setting a positive tone for the Indian contingent.

In the Men's Volleyball Quarterfinal, Japan showcased their dominance, defeating India with a clean 3-0 victory. While India put up a spirited effort in the third set, preventing Japan from running away, the Asian No. 1 eventually secured the win. 

Japan triumphed in the third set with a score of 25-17, effectively ending the hopes of a medal for the Indian men's team. 

Taniksha Khatri Advances to Round of 16 in Women's Epee Individual Fencing.

Taniksha Khatri beat Ena Arora 15-11 in All-Indian battle. Khatri is set to face Uzbek Fencer Shakhzoda Egamberdieva in Round of 16 soon.

Achanta Sharath Kamal completes the turn around by beating Aidos Kenzhigullov 5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9. Sharath came from 0-2 down to win the match. The win advanced India to the quarterfinals of the men’s team event, where they'll take on South Korea.

Earlier, Manika Batra-Led Indian Women's Table Tennis Team Lost to Thailand 2-3 in the Round of 16 clash. Manika Batra lost the decider 12-10, 8-11, 7-11, 6-11 to Suthasini Sawettabut.

India will take on Thailand in their women's football fixture in Hangzhou beginning at 1:30 PM (IST). The match will be a do-or-die for the Indian side after their defeat to Chinese Taipei.

Men’s Event Round 1: Vidit Gujarathi is taking on Mohammad Fahad of Bangladesh while Arjun Kumar Erigaisi is facing Paulo Bersamina of the Philippines.

Women’s Event Round 1: Koneru Humpy is up against Mobina Alinasabalamdari of Iran and Harika Dronavalli is squaring off against Rouda Alaali of UAE.

Indian Duo Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan are currently taking on Abhishek Bastola and Pradip Khadka of Nepal in men’s doubles round 1.

After winning the silver medal in the Men's Coxed Eight, India Rower Punit Kumar said, "I am feeling very proud...We have been working very hard for this (medal) since 2019..."

India suffered a 2-3 defeat against Thailand, leading to their exit from the women's team event. Manika Batra's decisive match ended with a 12-10, 8-11, 7-11, 6-11 loss to Suthasini Sawettabut.

Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal, seeded fifth, made a dominant start to his Asian Games 2023 men's singles journey, defeating Macao China's Ho Tin Marco with a score of 6-0, 6-0 in just 45 minutes.

Indians rowers made it to the record books in Hangzhou they bagged a silver in Men's Coxed Eight and a bronze in Men's Pair at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre.

The Indian team of Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar, Ashish, Naresh Kalwaniya, Neeraj, Neetish Kumar, Charanjeet Singh and Dhananjay Pande won the silver medal in the Men's Coxed Eight while Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram won bronze medal in the Men's Pair events on Sunday, taking the Indian tally in rowing to three medals today.

In the first half of the match, India's men's hockey team dominated Uzbekistan as they found the back of the net on 7 occasions. The sheer dominance continued in the second half as India won the match by 16-0. The games saw hattricks for Manpreet, Lalit and Varun. 

India has started on a high note in the Asian Games 2023, bagging five medals already. Three of the medals came in Rowing (2 Silver, 1 Bronze). The other two (1 Bronze, 1 Silver) came in Shooting, one in the team event and the other in the individual event.
