Asian Games 2026: Aman Sehrawat produced a stunning performance under pressure to defeat North Korea’s world champion Chong Song Han 11-7 and clinch the gold medal in the men’s 57kg wrestling event on Saturday.
In a fiercely contested final, the Indian wrestler displayed remarkable tactical awareness and defensive resilience to overcome a major challenge from Han and secure his maiden Asian Games gold.
Aman had won bronze at the Hangzhou Asian Games and entered the final with an opportunity to change the colour of his medal.
The 23-year-old made the most of the chance, surviving a dramatic spell in the second half of the bout before producing a decisive move to regain control and finish on top.

However, Han refused to surrender and suddenly turned the contest on its head. The world champion launched an aggressive attacking spell and managed to score six points in quick succession, taking a 7-6 lead and putting Aman under considerable pressure.
Four-Point Move Changes The Bout
The Indian delivered exactly that when it mattered most. Aman executed an outstanding move to score four points, taking the lead from 6-7 to 10-7.
The four-point sequence included two points for the takedown and another two after Aman completed a roll on Han. The move proved decisive as the Indian regained control of the contest.
Han then attempted to challenge the scoring, but his challenge was unsuccessful, handing Aman another point and extending his advantage to 11-7.
From there, the Indian wrestler focused on defending his lead and refused to allow Han another opening. Despite the North Korean continuing to search for opportunities, Aman held firm until the final whistle.
Aman Completes Medal Upgrade
The victory marks a brilliant moment in Aman’s Asian Games career. After securing bronze at Hangzhou, the Indian has now moved to the top step of the podium in the 57kg category.
Aman had earlier booked his place in the final with a 14-8 semifinal victory over Tajikistan’s Aiaal Belolyubskii. He then produced his biggest performance of the tournament against the reigning world champion.
