Gulveer Singh Scripts History With Silver Medal in Men's 10,000m at CWG 2026

India's impressive campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow continued on Day 6 as Gulveer Singh etched his name into the history books by winning a silver medal in the men's 10,000m event. His remarkable run, coupled with Harjinder Kaur's silver in weightlifting, took India's overall medal tally to 12.

Competing in challenging conditions on a rain-soaked track, Gulveer delivered one of the finest long-distance performances by an Indian athlete at the Commonwealth Games.

Gulveer's historic feat drew comparisons with Avinash Sable's memorable silver medal in the men's 3000m foot race at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Sable had famously ended Kenya's long-standing dominance in the event, and four years later Gulveer has produced another landmark moment for Indian athletics.

Despite the wet conditions, the Indian distance runner remained unfazed and executed his race plan to perfection. His consistency over the final laps ensured he held on to second place, delivering one of India's standout performances of the Glasgow Games.

Gulveer Singh’s Comments

Speaking after the race, Gulveer expressed his delight at winning the historic medal.

"It always feels good to win a medal. The race was good, there was rain but when you win a medal it hardly matters if there is rain, sunshine, heat or anything else," the reigning Asian champion said.

The 26-year-old also revealed the faith that kept him calm before stepping onto the track. "I had left everything on God. Before the race I told almighty, dekh lena (please watch over me)," he added.

With Gulveer Singh's silver and Harjinder Kaur's podium finish in weightlifting, India continued its steady rise in the medals table.
