Argentina vs Columbia, Copa America 2024 Final: Lionel Messi couldn't hold back his emotions as he was seen in tears on the Argentina bench after he was forced to leave the pitch due to an injury against Columbia in the Copa America 2024 final.

Messi was subbed off in the 66th minute after which he was seen throwing his boot away in anguish as he took to his seat while in tears.

Just before half-time, Messi suffered a leg injury while chasing for the ball inside Columbia's penalty box as he took a blow from the defender.

His right leg landed awkwardly for which he took medical assistance but played out the remaining part of the first half and even returned for action in the second half.

In the 64th minute of the game, Messi's chase for the ball towards Luis Diaz triggered his injury after which he went down on the pitch in immense pain.

After physios took a look at the concerned instance, Messi was taken off and Nico Gonzalez came in for him.

On his way back to the dugout, Messi received a standing ovation from the fans who also chanted his name for a while watching the legendary footballer break down in tears.

Messi played his role in the match, completing 85% of his passes with one big chance created and one shot on target.

The match ended with a 0-0 scoreline after the regular 90 minutes before Lautaro Martinez scored the winning goal for Argentina in the second half of the extra time in the 112th minute.

Argentina became the most successful team in the history of the Copa America, having lifted their record 16th title.

After the monumental achievement, Messi shared a warm hug with coach Lionel Scaloni and then walked straight to Angel di Maria, who brought the curtains down on his decorated international career on a winning note.

Messi embraced Lautaro Martinez, who allowed his happy tears to flow.
