Ronaldo Breaks More FIFA World Cup Records

Ronaldo's performance against Uzbekistan was historic in more ways than one. The Portuguese legend surpassed Lionel Messi by becoming the only player in FIFA World Cup history to score in six different editions of the tournament.

While Messi has scored in five World Cup editions, Ronaldo extended the record to six after finding the net in Portugal's Group-stage encounter.

The brace also helped Ronaldo surpass Messi as the oldest player to score two goals in a FIFA World Cup match.

Ronaldo was 41 years and 138 days old when he scored twice against Uzbekistan on June 23, 2026. Messi, meanwhile, was 38 years and 363 days old when he netted a brace for Argentina against Austria at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on June 22, 2026.
