Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal's star footballer is all set to receive an amount of around €9.8 million ($10.46m) from his former club Juventus through an arbitration board following a salary dispute.

The current Al-Nassr captain Ronaldo had claimed that he was owed €19.5m ($20.81m) of outstanding wages by his former club, an amount of the pay cut agreed upon during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ronaldo, who represented Juventus for three seasons(2018-21) before joining Manchester United (2021-22) and then the Saudi club Al Nassr, had his claim of 19.5 million euros reduced by 50 per cent by the arbitration panel.

"The arbitration board ... ascertained the validity of [Ronaldo's] compensation reduction agreement in relation to the 2020/21 sporting season," Juventus said in a statement sent to Reuters.

“They partially granted the request made by (Ronaldo)..., ascertaining Juventus’ pre-contractual liability resulting from the failure of negotiations and ordered the defendant to pay an amount of approximately €9.8 million,” Juventus said.

"The Company, also with the support of its legal counsel, is reviewing the decision made by the arbitration board, reserving all assessments and initiatives to preserve its rights."

Ronaldo joined Juventus in August 2018 and helped them to two consecutive Serie A titles, an Italian Cup and two Super Cups.

During his three-season stay at Juventus, the 39-year-old bagged 101 goals and contributed with 22 assists in 134 matches across competitions.

Notably, Juventus president Andrea Agnelli and the entire club board resigned in 2023 amid an investigation into false accounting — which then resulted in a 10-point penalty for Juventus in Serie A and a ban by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) from Europe for this season.

Talking about Ronaldo, the veteran footballer joined Manchester United for a second stint after leaving Juventus in 2021.

He finished as the top-scorer for United during his only full season at the club before his contract was terminated in 2022.

In 2023, he signed for Al Nassr, a Saudi Arabia club which he continues to play for that too as their skipper.
