Lionel Scaloni praised Lionel Messi by calling him an "absolute legend" and a "historymaker" ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final match between Argentina and Spain, requesting fans to value him whenever they can.
Argentina is only a win away from retaining their FIFA World Cup title, as they have the Spanish team coming up in the big match. Messi is in the spotlight yet again as he has a chance to win his second FIFA World Cup today in the final match.
While addressing the media and fielding questions alongside goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, Scaloni was queried about Messi’s accomplishments in his career at the age of 39 and what this occasion means to him.

Scaloni On Lionel Messi
Scaloni initially smiled and replied, "Ask Leo," when questioned about Messi's future with the national team after the final. However, the Argentina boss soon reflected on the extraordinary journey of his captain.
"He is pure history. A legend. Reaching a final at 39 years of age is unbelievable. We must enjoy him as it happens. With Diego (Maradona), we miss him. But Messi is still with us. He is the history, he is the legend, and together with this group of people who have brought us these wonderful years, we'll always remember him," Scaloni said.
The World Cup-winning coach also left no doubt about where Messi stands in football history.
"It fills me with pride because he is the best player in the history of football," he added.
