Kumamoto Masters 2025: Lakshya Sen has maintained his sublime form as he has qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing tournament by defeating Singapore's Jia Heng Jason Teh on Thursday. The seventh player had put up a brilliant performance in a match that went for about 39 minutes and won the match by 21-13, 21-11.
Lakshya had a flying start to the first game, as with the help of his speed and control of the net, he was able to lead by 8-5. Teh did pile some pressure on him as he took the score to 10-9, but Lakshya bounced back and was leading by 11-10 at halftime. It was a closely fought game as the score was 14-13, but then Lakshya scored seven consecutive points. This sudden aggressive strokeplay helped him to finish the first game quickly.
The second game was quite one-sided, where Lakshya took an early lead. He was leading by 5-0 and then 11-3 till the break and didn't let Teh make a comeback. He was able to control his rallies, and his brilliant shot selection made sure that the match didn't go that long.

Lakshya will face Singapore's Loh Kean Yew in the quarterfinals. Both these players have been involved in fierce battles, and the upcoming match will test Lakshya's ability to play well against a stronger opponent, who is known for his aggressive strokeplay.
On the other hand, HS Prannoy was knocked out in the second round. He lost the match to Rasmus Gemke by 18-21, 15-21 in a match that went for about 46 minutes. Prannoy, who tried to regain full fitness, showed glimpses of his old self but was seen struggling to play longer rallies. Gemke's brilliant speed proved to be too good for him.

With Prannoy getting knocked out, Lakshya is India's only hope in the men's singles category. Now that he has reached the quarters, his current form will play a huge role in helping him go deeper in this tournament.
