Liverpool vs Atlético Madrid Lineups OUT: Ronald Araújo, Julián Álvarez Start As Lookman Benched

Liverpool and Atlético Madrid have announced their starting lineups for their Champions League clash at Anfield, with both managers making eye-catching selections for the European opener.

Liverpool hand Ronald Araújo a starting role in defence, while new signing Bradley Barcola also gets his first Champions League start for the Reds.

At the other end, Atlético Madrid have named Julián Álvarez in their starting XI, while new signing Ademola Lookman has been left on the bench.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Alisson Becker starting in goal.

Araújo's inclusion adds further defensive strength alongside Van Dijk and Jacquet, while Barcola gets the opportunity to make his mark from the start following his summer move.

Alexander Isak leads the Liverpool attack, with Wirtz operating behind the Swedish striker. The Reds enter the fixture after securing their first Premier League victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town, where Isak scored twice.

Diego Simeone has responded with a strong side, handing Álvarez a starting berth despite previously indicating that the Argentine was still building towards full fitness.

Álvarez's inclusion is one of the biggest talking points, particularly after Simeone had suggested that the forward was not yet ready to start. The Argentine now gets the chance to lead Atlético's attack at Anfield.

Lookman, meanwhile, starts among the substitutes alongside Jonathan David and several other attacking options.
