Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has created history in the UEFA Champions League after surpassing Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe's record for the most goals scored before turning 20.

The Spanish winger achieved the milestone during Barcelona's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday, November 3.

Yamal opened the scoring at Spotify Camp Nou in the seventh minute, capitalising on a defensive error from the visitors. Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki played a short pass that was intercepted by Joao Gomes, allowing the Barcelona forward to take possession inside the penalty area. The 19-year-old made no mistake as he curled a left-footed effort into the bottom corner.

The goal took Yamal's Champions League tally to 14, making him the highest-scoring player in the competition before his 20th birthday. He moved past Mbappe, who previously held the record with 13 goals, while Erling Haaland sits third on the list with 10 goals.

At 19 years and 113 days, Yamal has reached the landmark in 37 Champions League appearances. Mbappe had scored 13 goals in 23 appearances before turning 20, but the Barcelona youngster has now moved ahead of the Frenchman.

Yamal's European journey began in September 2023, when he made his Champions League debut against Royal Antwerp at just 16 years old. However, he had to wait until the following season to register his first goal in the competition.

The Spain international scored five Champions League goals before turning 18 and added six more before his 19th birthday. His latest strike against Aston Villa took his tally beyond Mbappe's previous teenage record.
