Mahavir Phogat, Vinesh Phogat's uncle, viewed the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) decision to delay the ruling on Vinesh's request for a joint-silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics as a promising development for the Indian team.

Initially scheduled for August 10th, the CAS has pushed back the verdict by a day, now expected on August 13th at 9:30pm IST, giving Vinesh's camp renewed hope for a favourable outcome.

Mahavir Phogat, Vinesh's uncle, reacted to the deadline extension with a blend of optimism and appreciation, feeling encouraged by the possibility of a favourable outcome while also acknowledging the Court of Arbitration for Sport's willingness to reconsider Vinesh's plea.

"We have been waiting for two days, and I believe this postponement is a good sign for us. I am thankful to the Indian government for stepping in with good lawyers. The government is fully trying for the silver medal, and I am grateful for their efforts," Mahavir told India Today.

Vinesh faced disqualification on the day of the gold medal match due to a minor weight infraction.

Despite initially weighing in at 49.90 kg, within the allowed limit, on Tuesday morning, she gained over 100 grams throughout the day as she won three consecutive matches, including a notable victory against reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki.

"We are deprived of gold, but people are praying that she gets silver. All family members will be sitting together, and Vinesh will be asked to reverse her decision if it comes to that," Mahavir added.

Mahavir Phogat stated that he is prepared to accept the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision, regardless of whether it's in their favour or not.

"We will be welcoming her happily, whatever the verdict comes. I am hopeful that good news will come," he added.

The ad hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport has extended its verdict on Vinesh Phogat's silver medal appeal. The decision was scheduled to be released on August 10 at 9:30 pm IST. However, it has been postponed to 9:30 PM IST on August 13.
