Paris Paralympics 2024: Indian para-cyclists Arshad Shaik and Jyoti Gaderia couldn't perform well in their respective track cycling events and were knocked out from the qualification round in the ongoing quadrennial event on Wednesday. During the qualifying stage of the men's 1000m time trial C1-3, Shaik finished in the 17th position at a timing of 1:21.416 and couldn't qualify for the summit clash. Last week, he also couldn't qualify in the men's 3000m C2 event and thus finished in the ninth position in the qualifying round.

Jyoti disappointed as well by finishing in the 11th position in the women's 500m C1-3 qualifying event at a timing of 49.233.

Last week, she once again lied at the last position in the women's 3000m pursuit C1-3 qualifying event.

Shaik was involved in an auto accident in May 2004. He sustained lots of injuries and that led to his left leg above his knee being removed.

He had clinched a gold medal at the 2024 Asian Para Track cycling championship in New Delhi.

At the same time, Jyoti suffered a bike accident in May 2016, and her left leg above her knee was amputated as well.

She too had won multiple gold medals at the Asian Para Track Cycling Championship and Asian Para Road Cycling Championship.

Both of them will now be seen in action in road cycling events.

Shaik will participate in the men's time trial C2 and men's road race C1-3 categories whereas Jyoti will be seen in action in women's time trial C1-3 and women's road race C1-3 divisions.

C1 to C5 categories are for those athletes, who are suffering from prosthesis or limited movement of upper or lower limbs.
