Paris Paralympics 2024: Indian para shuttler Nithya Sre Sivan bagged a bronze medal in the SH6 category in badminton at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 after beating Indonesia's Rina Marlina in straight sets.
Nithya registered a dominating straight sets triumph over Indonesia's Rina Marlina, winning 21-14, 21-6 at La Chapelle Arena Court 3. This triumph took place in the SH6 category, which is designated for athletes with short stature who compete while standing, denoted by the "SH" abbreviation for "standing/short stature".
Nithya got off to a strong start, dashing to a 7-0 lead in the first game, but Marlina produced an incredible comeback to level the score at 10-10. But the Indian regained her pace and took the game in just 13 minutes. Building on her momentum, Nithya continued her domination in the second game, taking a commanding 10-2 lead.
Nithya kept her lead and secured the victory in just 23 minutes, wrapping up the match in straight games. It was a wonderful day for India, with Nitesh Kumar, Manisha Ramadass, and Thulasimathi Murugesan joining Nithya in the medal tally, all accomplishing triumphs in badminton events.
Earlier in the day, top-seeded Indian shuttler Nitesh Kumar clinched a gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category while Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha Ramadass bagged a silver and a bronze in the Para-Badminton SU5 Women's Singles category.
Suhas Yathiraj took home his second consecutive Paralympics silver medal in the men's singles SL4 category, after a hard final against France's Lucas Mazur.
