Paris Paralympics 2024: Indian para-athlete Sachin Sarjerao Khilari on Wednesday produced a remarkable performance with resilience to clinch the silver medal in the men's shot put F46 final at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 with a massive throw of 16.32m.

Sachin Khilari became the first Indian male athlete to win a Paralympic shot-put medal in 30 years.

In a closely contested match, after just a throw of 14.72m in his first attempt Sachin Khilari scripted an outstanding comeback in his second attempt to register a whopping 16.32m throw.

Canada’s Greg Stewart outperformed Sachin to register a huge 16.34m attempt on this third try. The Indian fought back with an attempt of 16.15m in his third throw but it was not enough to surpass Stewart's throw.

Sachin Khilari kept his fine performance going with incredible consistency and was just 0.02m behind the leader - Greg Stewart after 4 attempts. In his last two attempts, Sachin Khilari registered throws of 16.03 and 15.95, finishing behind Stewart for the silver medal.

Sachin's silver is the 11th medal from para-athletics for India in the ongoing Games. He had also won a gold in last year's Asian Para Games in China.

Sachin competes in the F46 classification, designated for athletes with upper limb impairments. Specifically, Sachin has an impairment in his left hand.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Greg Stewart, who is a Paralympic Games record-holder and the reigning champion, took home the gold medal with a powerful throw of 16.38m - his season-best. Croatia's Luka Bakovic clinched the bronze medal with a best throw of 15.85m.

On the other hand, the other two Indians Mohd Yasser and Rohit Kumar finished 8th and 9th respectively.
