Doha Diamond League 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded double Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra on his official social media account for breaching the 90m mark for the first time during the men's javelin throw event at the Doha Diamond League on Friday. Neeraj registered his best throw of 90.23m in his third attempt and thus finished in second place behind Germany's Julian Weber. Prime Minister Modi heaped praises on Neeraj for his grit and determination in a heartwarming social media post and thus celebrated his long-term dream finally coming true.

" A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at the Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw. This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline, and passion. India is elated and proud," Narendra Modi had written on his official X account.

Even though Chopra scripted history but it was Germany's Julian Weber, who won the event by throwing at a distance of 91.06m. Grenada's Anderson Peters finished in third place, whereas the other Indian javelin thrower, Kishore Jena, finished in eighth place.

Chopra started the event on a high as he threw at a distance of 88.40m in his first attempt. His second attempt turned out to be a foul, but then he made a brilliant comeback and threw at a distance of 90.23m during his third attempt and thus went past his own national record and scripted history by becoming the first Indian and the only third Asian to have achieved this milestone.

After scripting history, his other throws varied as he threw at a distance of 80.56m, then another throw turned out to be a foul, and then he threw at a distance of 88.20m during his last attempt. Despite this, it was his third attempt that helped him join the elite list of javelin throwers.

His latest throw has helped him become the 24th javelin thrower to have broken the 90m mark. He has joined the elite list of Germany's Max Dehning, who threw at a distance of 90.20m, and Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott, who threw at a distance of 90.16m. Jan Elezn continues to be the world record holder, who is also Neeraj's current coach, and is the world record holder, has scripted history by throwing at a distance of 98.48m way back in 1996.
