US Open 2025: Defending champion Jannik Sinner affirmed his dominance in the US Open quarterfinals, dismantling Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in the first-ever all-Italian men's Grand Slam quarterfinal at the ongoing US Open 2025.

Sinner put aside the friendship with Musetti to settle the first-ever all-Italian affair by becoming only the sixth man to reach 25 Grand Slam wins in a single season. Sinner cruised past Musetti in just 2 hours, with the first set surviving just 27 minutes.

Sinner's serve demonstrated nearly indestructible, with him succeeding 91 per cent of his first-serve points (42/46). Musetti laboured to return, composing just 18 out of 75 return points.

“We know each other very well. We are from the same country. We have so many Italian players every time in the draw. I know here, there are many Italians here, so it’s nice to play here. Obviously, playing Davis Cup together and stuff like this, we have to take the friendship away for the match and then obviously when we shake hands, everything is fine," Sinner said of Musetti following his two-hour victory as quoted by ATP.

“From my point of view, it was a great performance, very solid. Especially starting very, very well in the match," he added.

Sinner now advances to Friday's semifinal and will take on Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Italian eased past Auger-Aliassime in Cincinnati, conceding just two games in a quarter-final thrashing.

Sinner is on a fiery, triumphant roll, having reached his fifth consecutive Grand Slam semifinal and a victory on Friday would push him to the finals of all four majors this year.
