Vinesh Phogat News: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat's dream to clinch a medal for India in the women's freestyle 50-kg category at the 2024 Paris Olympics might not be beyond salvage yet as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is likely to accept one of the pleas moved by her in the wake of her disqualification for being 100 grams past the weight limit.

In her appeal, Vinesh has demanded that she be awarded a joint silver medal. The CAS is likely to accept the protest, news agency IANS reported, citing sources, on Thursday. The decision might be announced by this evening, the source added. An Ad hoc Division of the CAS has been set up in Paris for resolution by arbitration of any disputes arising during the Olympic Games or during a period of 10 days preceding the Opening Ceremony.

On Wednesday, Vinesh was stripped of the opportunity to participate in the gold medal bout of her category after she weighed 100 grams more than the 50-kg-limt at the morning weigh-in. Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who lost to Vinesh in the semifinals, had replaced the 29-year-old in the final. In an unexpected move, a heartbroken Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling via a moving social media post on Thursday morning.

Addressing her mother Premlata, Vinesh, a three-time Olympian, wrote, "Ma, wrestling has won, I have lost. Please forgive me, your dreams and my courage, everything is broken."
"I don't have any more strength now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I shall be indebted to you all. Forgive (me)," added the two-time world championships bronze-medallist.
