Who is Lamine Yamal: All eyes will once again be on Barcelona's young sensation Lamine Yamal as they gear up to take on Inter Milan in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal fixture on Wednesday. The match will be played at Inter's home ground, San Siro.
The first leg ended in a 3-3 draw at Barcelona's home ground. Yamal played a key role in Barca's comeback after they went 0-2 down. Apart from scoring Barca's first goal in the tie, the young winger Yamal struck the woodwork twice and was a constant menace for the Inter defence, showcasing the maturity and skill of a player well beyond his years.
The 17-year-old Yamal has already achieved massive popularity on the back of his brilliance on the football pitch at a consistent rate. He has already achieved remarkable milestones in his brief career. At just 15 years and 291 days, he became Barcelona's youngest-ever debutant in April 2023.
With 6 goals and 13 assists, Yamal has helped Barcelona inch closer to the much-awaited La Liga title. He also has scored five times in the UCL and has three assists under his belt as Barca made their first semifinal appearance after 7 years.
Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi warned his side that they must stop "quick thinker" Lamine Yamal if they are to reach the Champions League final. Who is Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal came through Barcelona's youth system, their famous La Masia Academy. He made his debut for Barcelona at the age of just 15 years and 291 days during a match against Real Betis in April 2023 under former manager Xavi Hernandez.
Yamal impressed with his jaw-dropping skills and ability to make quick, decisive moves on the field. Later in 2023, he became the youngest scorer in the history of the Spanish Liga when he scored in a 2-2 draw at Granada on 8 October. By that time, he was already breaking new ground in the UEFA Champions League, and by the following summer, he would be a UEFA EURO 2024 winner and a global sensation.
However, he emerged as Barca's biggest match winner under new manager Hansi Flick this season and has been unstoppable since as the Spanish giants looked to win multiple trophies. With Yamal making impactful efforts, Barca have already won the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey titles.
