But there are very few paid users in India who have a subscription just to watch movies and TV shows. In this article, we will list down some OTT streaming services on which you can stream movies for free. However, you might see some ads, just like you get to see content on Youtube for free but have to watch ads along with it. In this article, we will list down the 5 best apps to watch movies and TV shows for free and also explain some of their features. So without any further ado, let’s head into the article.

OTT in India

According to The Ormax OTT Audience Report: 2024, based on a survey conducted in June and July in both urban and rural India, OTT (over the top) penetration in India was at 38.4% from a sample size of 12,000 people. Compared to 2023, the total audience as per the report grew by 13.8%, which was entirely driven by growth in the AVoD (advertising video-on-demand) audience that surged by 21%. On the other hand, the SVoD (subscription video-on-demand) segment shrank by 2%.

The definition of OTT audience in the report was those who consumed at least one online video (free or paid) in the preceding month, which means currently India stands at 99.6 million active paid OTT subscriptions, a figure almost identical to last year.

The average number of platforms subscribed to per audience member fell to 2.5 from 2.8, indicating that the willingness among audience members to spend on multiple streaming services is reducing.

To conclude, India has 547 million OTT users but active paid subscriptions remain stagnant at 100 million. So for all those who don’t have any subscription, below we will list down free apps where you will be able to see more content for free.
