SOON after Google and Microsoft incorporated artificial intelligence technologies into their search engines Google Search and Bing, Mozilla, the developer of the Firefox search engine, announced a new firm named Mozilla.ai with the goal of developing a trustworthy and independent open-source AI ecosystem for consumers. The company also announced a $30 million investment in the business to create an AI-powered ecosystem.

For those who are unaware, Mozilla Firefox is one of the leading browsers in the world with over 3.1 percent of the market share, which counts over 362 million users in the world. And with this move, the company aims to increase its user base.

According to a blog post, "the objective for Mozilla.ai is to make it easy to develop trustworthy AI solutions. We will build things and work with individuals who share our vision for AI, which includes agency, accountability, transparency, and openness. Mozilla.ai will be a gathering place for like-minded startups, developers, scientists, product managers, and builders outside of large tech and academia," says Mark Surman, Mozilla's executive president and head of Mozilla.ai.

In addition, the company claimed that this collection of individuals might change the course of events and forge a trustworthy, autonomous, decentralised AI ecosystem that would act as a meaningful alternative to the status quo.

The new company Mozilla.ai will initially concentrate on developing tools that make generative AI safer and more transparent that don't mislead or threaten the success of the business.

The company stated that it will make announcements about new projects, alliances, and public events later this year.

Meanwhile, to support its metaverse goal, Mozilla has finalised the acquisition of US-based virtual spaces and events start-up Active Replica in December of last year.

While it develops Hubs, the company's virtual reality (VR) collaboration platform, Mozilla acquired the startup.
