Airtel's Xtelify has launched a cloud platform specifically for telecom companies, called Airtel Cloud. This platform is a by-product of Airtel's internal operations and is now being provided to third-party service providers as part of a greater IaaS and PaaS offering.

Airtel claims that the platform is “Made in India,” processes 140 crore transactions a minute, and is hosted in sustainable data centres. In addition to the cloud offering, Xtelify launched AI-powered telecom analytics and automation solutions.

Let’s break it down.

Airtel Cloud: Built In-House, Now Going Global

Airtel Cloud is an internal backbone to the company’s operations and digital infrastructure. Now, Xtelify is expanding its reach to include telecom operators in India, as well as strategic partners in Africa and Asia.

Key features of Airtel Cloud:

  • Handles 140 crore transactions per minute
  • Sovereign platform: built entirely in India
  • Hosted on green data centres with water reuse and sustainable practices
  • Supports high-scale AI/ML workloads
  • No vendor lock-in
  • Up to 40% savings on cloud spending, according to Airtel

Airtel provides these claims to market as a secure, scalable, and cost-effective option compared to other hyperscaler services like AWS or Google Cloud.

AI-First SaaS Layer on Top of Airtel Cloud

Xtelify released an AI-powered software suite to enable telecom companies to gain insights by adding an intelligence layer on top of Airtel Cloud, thereby enabling Infrastructure and Platform as a Service. The Airtel Cloud integration serves as the backbone for the modular software components, focusing on:

  • Churn prediction
  • ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) analysis
  • Network optimization
  • Customer lifecycle management
  • Task and workforce automation

The platform is made up of two core components:

  • A workforce platform for internal operations
  • An experience platform for customer engagement and lifecycle tracking
  • Essentially, it’s an all-in-one tool to make telecom companies smarter, faster, and more data-driven.

Three Global Telecom Partnerships Already Signed

Airtel has already secured three major global partnerships for its newly expanded cloud and AI software platforms:

  • Singtel (Singapore)
  • Globe Telecom (Philippines)
  • Airtel Africa (wholly owned by Bharti Airtel)

These partnerships are likely early proof points to demonstrate the scalability and utility of Airtel Cloud beyond India.

Why This Move Matters

This is Airtel doubling down on its ambitions to go beyond being just a telecom operator. With Xtelify and Airtel Cloud, it is making a foray into the enterprise technology sector, focusing specifically on telecoms instead of general-purpose enterprises.

It also signals Airtel’s intent to establish India's sovereign, India-origin substitutes of international cloud behemoths.

Final Word

Airtel’s launch of the Xtelify cloud and AI stack is to strategically position the company to serve the entire telecom ecosystem. This platform, driven by AI, cost-efficiency, and sustainability, has the potential to transform how regional telecoms modernise operations and reduce reliance on global cloud providers.
