Android Update Alert: Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), functioning under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, has issued a 'high' severity warning for Android users in the country. The vulnerability note shared by the national nodal agency flagged "multiple vulnerabilities" for users on February 9. Among the affected versions include "Android 11, 12, 12L, 13 and 14".

These vulnerabilities in the Android system can let bad actors access sensitive information, gain elevated control and execute malicious codes in the device of users. The problems were reported due to the flaws in the framework, System Arm components, and MediaTek, Unisoc and Qualcomm components. With these, an attacker could have executed codes in a compromised device to gain access to an Android system.

"Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Android which could be exploited by an attacker to obtain sensitive information, gain elevated privileges and execute arbitrary code on the targeted system...These vulnerabilities exist in Android due to flaws in the Framework, System, Arm components, MediaTek components, Unisoc components, Qualcomm components and Qualcomm closed-source components," CERT-In noted.

"Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow the attacker to obtain sensitive information, gain elevated privileges and execute arbitrary code on the targeted system," the agency added. It is recommended that users update their software and install the latest security patch on their systems to curb the risks of such items.

Apart from updates, you must follow some tips to keep your data safe in the digital world. Do not visit links received from unknown users online. Plus, make sure not to install applications from app markets other than the Play Store or sites that promise cracked .apk and unlimited rewards. Moreover, monitor your apps list and permissions in the Settings app and uninstall or revoke permissions of strange and unnecessary apps.
