Apple is set to introduce some new enhancements to its flagship coding tool, Xcode. The company is said to introduce agentic coding in it, jumping right into the agentic bandwagon that Silicon Valley is buzzing with.

With agentic coding, programmers will have at their disposal an artificial intelligence software that can independently write the code. The Cupertino-based tech giant has expressed that its tool will aid Anthropic's Claude Agent and OpenAI's Codex.

An official from Apple said in a demo video on Tuesday, “Xcode and coding agents can now work together to handle complex multi-step tasks on your behalf.”

Previously, Apple had updated its flagship coding model, Xcode, with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Claude, but this latest development extends the relationship further by adding agentic AI coding tools to it. In an internal email, Apple clarified to the developers that with this new tool enhancement, they will be able to build and test projects, search for Apple documentation, and fix problems.

This is a trend that is also catching up in the industry with individual programmers and companies, which is now being touted as a faster way to code, popularly known as 'vibe coding,' where humans prompt and AI reviews the code.

Users will need an API key, which they will have to use to connect their OpenAI or Anthropic accounts to Xcode. Apple says it is relying on an open standard that lets developers plug in other compatible AI agents and tools into Xcode, beyond the built-in integrations from Anthropic and OpenAI.

Xcode, Apple’s core development environment used to create almost every iPhone app, is now getting this update through Xcode 26. 3. The new version is currently available as a beta for registered developers and will roll out later on the App Store.

This move signifies Apple's bigger long-term move when it comes to integrating AI tech with its systems. The tech giant is lagging behind when it comes to AI and related tools and fares much worse than its competitors like Google and others; this move also signals its intention to grow its presence in the said space.
