Apple has just refreshed its desktop display lineup, and this time it is clearly targeting creators and professionals who need serious screen real estate. The company has introduced an updated Studio Display and an all-new Studio Display XDR, both built around 27-inch 5K panels but aimed at slightly different users.

The message is simple. If you edit videos, design graphics, code for hours, or work with colour-critical projects, Apple wants these monitors on your desk.

Refreshed Studio Display Gets Smarter

The updated Studio Display sticks with the familiar 27-inch 5K Retina panel, but Apple has quietly added meaningful hardware upgrades.

You now get a 12MP camera with Centre Stage support, which keeps you in the frame during video calls. There is also Desk View, which can show a top-down view of your desk during meetings. For anyone constantly hopping between Zoom calls and presentations, that is actually useful.

Audio has also been upgraded. The monitor features a three-microphone array and a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio support. For many users, this could mean one less accessory on the desk.

Thunderbolt 5 And Better Connectivity

One of the biggest upgrades is Thunderbolt 5 support. The new Studio Display can connect up to four displays in a daisy-chain setup, creating a massive combined workspace of nearly 60 million pixels.

It also includes two extra USB-C ports for accessories and device charging. Apple says the monitor can deliver up to 96W of power through the bundled Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable. That is enough to fast charge devices like the 14-inch MacBook Pro while handling display output and data transfer at the same time.

Studio Display XDR Goes All In On Brightness

Alongside the refreshed model, Apple has introduced the Studio Display XDR. This is where things get more serious.

It also features a 27-inch 5K panel, but with a mini-LED backlight system. There are 2,304 local dimming zones, which means better brightness control, deeper blacks and reduced blooming around bright objects.

Apple claims the display can sustain up to 1,000 nits of brightness in SDR and hit peak HDR brightness of 2,000 nits. The contrast ratio is rated at 1,000,000:1, positioning it as a strong option for HDR video editing and colour grading.

120Hz And Pro-Level Colour

The Studio Display XDR comes with a 120Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync, adjusting between 47Hz and 120Hz depending on what is on screen. That should translate into smoother motion during editing, animation work and even occasional gaming.

On the colour front, the monitor supports Adobe RGB and covers over 80 percent of the Rec. 2020 colour space, making it suitable for high-end content production.

Price And Availability In India

The standard Studio Display is priced at Rs. 1,89,900, with an education price of Rs. 1,77,900. The Studio Display XDR starts at Rs. 3,99,900, and its education price is Rs. 3,87,900. Both models are available with standard glass or nano-texture glass.

Pre-orders begin on March 4, and retail availability starts March 11, 2026.

This refresh is clearly not for casual users. But for professionals who live in front of their screens every day, Apple is betting that better brightness, smarter cameras and Thunderbolt 5 will make the upgrade feel worth it.
