Apple announced the offline availability of the $3,499 Vision Pro in Apple Stores in the US on February 2. Soon after launch, people were struggling with the question of the durability of the premium headset. This was put to the test by Sam Kohl of AppleTrack for a YouTube video. While you might think of it as a fragile wearable device, it proved stronger than expected.
Kohl first noted that the magnetic Light Seal has a weak connecting force with the unit and recommends that users do not grab it from that portion. He goes on to intentionally collide with several household items and ends up scratching the front glass. The anchor was surprised at its durability initially.
Despite three drop tests (with height ranging up to six feet in the third one), the Vision Pro manages to survive the torture. But, the right speaker stopped working after the drop. While subsequent drops had no significant damage on the glass, the area around the band did undergo some wear and tear induced by the drops and collisions. At the final eighth drop from about 10-12 feet in height, the front glass of the headset finally cracked.

However, the inner glass on the front, cameras and sensors were still functional on the headset even after the relentless torture, Kohl said. Even after the front glass layer was removed, the Vision Pro performed as good as new, apart from the damage marks on the outside and right speaker.
According to Apple's support page, the estimated repair for the cracked cover glass costs $799, and other damages may cost up to $2,399. Users can also use the AppleCare+ plan to bring the cost down to $299 for a single repair. However, the company said this is not the "final service fee", which means it may vary at the time of actual repairs.
