Apple did indeed pilot new models from Anthropic and Google in the past, although it eventually determined Gemini. Despite Anthropic being the clear champion in testing, Apple selected to base their product on Google’s Gemini AI. Gurman wonders whether Apple’s profound business connection with Google influenced this pivotal decision. The search engine, after all, runs the Safari browser on Apple phones. In terms of functionality, Siri should not be referring to Gemini in any way because Apple users dislike the ambiguity and implied mistrust of Google.
