While smartphones and computers have seen a massive evolution with foldable and curved displays in the past few years, laptops have also come a long way. If you have already been a fan of multi-screen setups, you are going to love this one. We have got our hands on Zenbook Duo 2024 and it has slightly impressed me with its dual screen and multi-tasking capabilities. Here’s our review of the multi-screen laptop.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Display:
ASUS Zenbook DUO features dual 14-inch OLED panels with FHD+ resolution and touch support. If you want to use it traditionally, it comes with a detachable, backlit full-size keyboard and a touchpad for added flexibility. When the keyboard is removed, it transforms into a dual touch screen device with lovely colours and smoother operations, thanks to sweet transitions between sRGB and DCI-P3. The device gets Dolby Vision Display, and more to enhance your daily dose of entertainment. Well, if you want to point out, the device gets a 60 Hz refresh rate which may give you a hard time. The laptop can impress you with the 500 nits brightness for your in-room entertainment/work but is not recommended for use outside.
Speaking of multi-tasking in the dual, the main USP of this laptop, it does not disappoint you all. If you want to open up a PDF while writing the articles, watch movies while working or even open a virtual keyboard and a trackpad, you can do it all just like how you manage talking to your friends over a call while pretending to work in front of your manager.
If you are wondering how? ASUS has done it for you. It has ScreenXpert using which you can manage the App Switcher, App Navigator, Microphone Switcher, Control Centre, and more ( for both individual screens). If you want to switch to certain modes, you can do it just with a touch. You can opt-in for dual screen mode, Sharing Mode, Desktop Mode and Laptop Mode based on your preference. However, you may face some jittery transitions while switching to them.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Design:
Another interesting part of the updated Zenbook Duo is the design. It looks like a traditional device, which, when unfolded, transforms into a dual-screen giant, and has got enough attention from the people in the surroundings. It also has a built-in double-hinged kickstand that allows users to use the laptop in a variety of modes. The chassis is made entirely of metal and still, it weighs only 1.35 kg (1.65kg with the keyboard) and is 14.6mm thin.
While I'm most impressed with the sleekest keyboard available, it also includes Bluetooth connectivity. It has Pogo pins for easy connection and charging and, when removed, can be used as a Bluetooth keyboard. This is the main player, and it provides both conventional and multi-tasking options with a single push.
However, when you remove the keyboard and fold the device, you will notice a significant gap between the two screens, which if pressured, can damage the display. Here's some advice: do not put the laptop in your bag if you've removed the keyboard.
Last but not least, you get good viewing angles with the main display can tilt up to 180 degrees and the kickstand can help you adjust more for better productivity.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Performance:
In order to provide top-notch performance at a reasonable price and make it a versatile device, ASUS integrated Arc iGPU and Intel AI Boost NPU into the device, which is available with Intel Core Ultra 5, Core Ultra 7, and Core Ultra 9. You might have some concerns about the laptop's performance, but I can assure you that I have not experienced any issues with it—in fact, given that it is Intel EVO Certified, I have been quite impressed. It comes with 32GB LPDDR5X RAM and storage options that go up to 2 TB. Because the device is designed for professionals in the workforce who need to multitask, it also comes with an Advanced Cooling System that enables the CPU and GPU to run at up to 35W combined TDP, which means you can even do gaming but at a certain limit.
Don’t believe me, here are the performance scores we got from this laptop.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Connectivity:
The Zenbook Duo features two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-A) port, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It has Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, as well as ASUS Smart Connect and an FHD 3DNR IR webcam for secure login and clear video calls, which is obvious given that it is Intel EVO certified.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Battery Backup:
The device comes backed with a 75Wh battery and I got around 9 to 10 hours of battery backup on average usage which included writing articles, watching videos and a bit of photo editing. However, you may find it difficult to use both the displays without plugging it in.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Smart Software, User Experience
ASUS has impressed me with its best-in-class software and a wide range of gesture options. It includes a six-finger swipe to open the virtual keyboard and a three-finger tap to open the virtual touchpad, among other features. It has really made me believe that dual-screen laptops can work without glitches, lag, or anything else. It also gets Harman-Kardon-certified stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and offers great sound. It also gets ASUS AiSense Noise Cancelling Technology which will actually take your meetings at peace.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Stylus, Trackpad:
ASUS has also provided a number of devices that can help you navigate both screens more easily. We've already discussed the Keyboard, which has a sleek body, great response, and Bluetooth connectivity. It also includes the ASUS Pen 2.0 active stylus with Type-C charging capability, which provides up to 300 hours of battery life and supports 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt detection. However, it still lacks a magnetic spot to hold the pen.
ASUS Zenbook Duo Verdict:
The laptop by ASUS, Zenbook Duo is one of the best ones in the market that provides the balance between productivity and convenience. In terms of visual aesthetics, the OLED panel is just incredible, and the touch feature that comes with gestures facilitates usability. The solid build, together with a slim keyboard and Stylus Pen, places it within the market in a unique way. Although it has a price of over ₹1,59,000, the lean may do with the people to move on to powerful options rather than only productivity.
With the Zenbook Duo, I have to admit that my experience has been undoubtedly top-notch. The overall feeling carried over by the user experience is pretty classy, implying it`s an excellent choice for the office, multi-tasking, and so much more. It, however, has a high price which is most likely to be a point of concern for some. However, I accept that it is a thing to consider pretty much if game or heavier video editing is not your main focus.
