GOOGLE Bard is the search giant's latest bet to curb the dominance of AI-powered Bing and ChatGPT in the artificial intelligence space. Expanding its capabilities, the company announced that Bard can now help users with programming and coding. Plus, the AI engine can help a Google Sheets user to write functions.
In a blog post, Google announced that Bard can now help people in tasks such as "code generation, code debugging, and explanation" alongside programming. The capabilities have been launched in over 20 programming languages comprising C++, Python, Java and more. Further, a user can transfer the code to Google Colab, the announcement adds.
Bard can explain codes
The AI tool can further explain the code to the user. This will be helpful for learners to understand the snippet's output. If Bard uses a lengthy snippet from an open-source library, it would cite the same.
Bard can also check them for errors.
It can examine codes too
The AI chatbot can scrutinise codes for errors and the scope of debugging expands to Bard's creation too. "If Bard gives you an error message or code that doesn't do what you intended, just tell Bard 'this code didn't work, please fix it,' and Bard can help you debug," author Paige Bailey writes. Plus, it can also optimise codes for faster and enhanced efficiency.
But with caution
While a user must note the beta channel of Bard that is open to errors. In The Keyword blog, Google warns users against the mistakes it might make during the process. It cautions about "inaccurate, misleading or false information" that Bard may present confidently.
They may not present the desired output or incomplete, unoptimised code that would require double checks to make it work. However, regardless of the challenges, Bard can prove helpful to "write code, create test cases, or update APIs" and more.
