ByteDance has increased the amount of a tool it offers that can create videos from text inputs, joining a growing number of Chinese tech companies in a growing market that ChatGPT creator OpenAI is also focussing on.

Chinese companies have been building similar tools quickly ever since Microsoft-backed OpenAI unveiled its text-to-video model Sora in February. Some of these companies have already announced consumer-accessible versions of the model.

After being released on Android on July 31, Jimeng AI, created by ByteDance-owned Faceu Technology, is now accessible for Chinese users on the Apple App Store, according to Reuters' checks on Tuesday.

The short video app startup TikTok has launched a text-to-video model, which comes after several other similar model releases in China in recent months.

Late last month, Kuaishou, one of the top video applications in China, opened up its Kling AI text-to-video platform to a global user base. Its beta version can be accessed from anywhere in the world and registration just needs an email address.

Last month, the Chinese AI startup Zhipu AI also unveiled its video-generating model, Ying. A few days after its debut, Shengshu, a different company, formally unveiled its Vidu app.
