The widely used online design tool, Canva, recently suffered a major outage, causing a surge of complaints from users based in India who were unable to upload images or use the service efficiently. As per the information from a global outage monitoring service, India alone accounted for more than 100 reports for a particular issue. Out of these, 46% reported issues concerning the website, 42% stated difficulties with the server, and 12% reported mobile app issues.

These technical difficulties hit hard, especially for professionals who use canva.com for their design works, since it is time-critical. Widespread server errors coupled with image upload stalls severely hampered workflows. As a result of these persisting issues, users began seeking confirmation on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter).

Starting off as a complaints thread, it quickly turned into an outpouring of memes and jokes as users expressed their annoyance through the medium Canva assists in—design. It serves as a stark reminder of how integrated Canva has become into the workflows of designers, marketers, and students across the globe—and the fact that the platform is working to get services back to normal shows that the company has realised the dependency.
