ELECTRONIC Entertainment Expo, popularly known as E3, which is the largest gaming conference around the world has been cancelled as major game developers have backed out from the event. The event was supposed to happen in person and held in Los Angeles, for the first time ever since the pandemic started.
Game developers such as Nintendo, Microsoft, and Ubisoft have all stated that they will not be attending the event. E3 2023 "simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry," according to an email sent to employees and verified by IGN.
E3 2023 was planned to take place from June 13 to June 16. Kyle Marsden-Kish, global VP of gaming at ReedPop, was quoted as saying, "This was a difficult decision because of all the work we and our partners put into making this event happen, but we had to do what's right for the industry and what's right for E3."
"We appreciate and understand that interested companies would not have playable demos ready and that resourcing constraints made attending E3 this summer an impossibility." "We're sorry we can't give you the showcase you deserve and that you've come to expect from ReedPop's event experiences," Marsden-Kish added.
The pandemic has had a significant impact on the gaming industry, including popular gaming events. For those who are unaware, the E3 in 2020 was cancelled due to concerns about the virus spread, and it continued into 2021 as well, but it did migrate to an online event.
However, it, like any other online event, has greater accessibility and reach, but it lacks interactions, experience, and excitement.
