Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a feature you generally don't find when you hit the stores or e-commerce platforms to buy True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds under Rs 3,000. But, Flexnest's 'Flexdubs' is among the TWS offering this premium feature at an affordable price. Considering the price, you cannot expect the flamboyant AirPods experience, but it fares well.

It seems the manufacturer has drawn inspiration from Sony's complicated naming in the hearable lineup. The Flexdubs come with IPX5 water and sweat resistance. It tends to incline towards bass due to the tuned dynamic drivers. In terms of battery, the buds can last for a week (along with the case) in moderate usage of 3-4 hours daily. For more insights, check out the review of Flexnest Flexdubs as I aim to answer your question - is it worth the money?

Design and Build

Designed in Germany, the earbuds (and the case) have a matte black finish on the outside with shiny accents on the rims of the case. The case comes with a logo in the centre. But it's not that boring.

The buds and the case come with two parallel mini lights to add zing to the otherwise muted look. Silicone tips ensure it fits well in the ear canal. The light pounds of the buds compliments the in-ear comfort. Build quality seems average. Careful usage won't hurt other than a few minor scratches on the plastic over time.

Sound Quality

The TWS come with 10mm base-tuned dynamic drivers. It has a bass-oriented sound signature like most TWS at this price. Nonetheless, on the flip side, I prefer treble magic over boomy bass. Mids are average too. I count the loudness as one positive. Using it with 70-80 per cent volume was the default selection.

ANC and Transparency Mode

ANC on the buds is an appealing ask for the price. The company claims it can cancel noise up to 40 dB using SuperLeise Technology. It comes with four mics for crisp calls and noise cancellation. The tech mutes loud sounds that you wish to get rid of. After toggling ANC mode on the Flexdubs, the noise tones down to impressive levels.

I tested it against traffic horns and the infamous Rajiv Chowk rush in the Delhi metro. It performed decently. However, it does not create a pristine serene environment.

ANC helped me make calls with no low volume or shabby audio complaints from the other end. It is similar to what we expect in TWS buds at this price. On the opposite, I noticed that the Transparency Mode amplifies wind noise and vocals to some extent.

Touch Controls

The touch controls worked fine, but I missed the customisation app. I wished it had 'press and hold' for toggling ANC rather than the default 'triple tap' on the right earbud. This might be a nitpick because I am left-handed. A custom app can patch this in the upcoming models. Additionally, I faced no problems with connection and range as I tested it with the phone in my pocket.

Battery

Less than the company's claim of 5 hours, it lasted slightly over 4 hours with ANC enabled. The 450mAh charging case can top up the backup to 35 hours. We find it was true to a large extent.

Conclusion

If you are not a music nerd, prioritise ANC over everything and can live with the fatty bass experience, this is a compatible pick. For others who wish for a custom app and prioritise high notes over bass in soundtracks, look elsewhere. The brand can consider adding an app for custom controls and switching between different sound profiles.
