With Apple's iPhone 17 series now announced, the focus has already shifted to Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 series, due to arrive in January 2026. While Samsung has not spoken about the phones at all, leaks about the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the series' flagship, continue to come in.
Camera configuration could stay the same.
A new leak from tipster Ice Universe indicates that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will inherit the same 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The 1/2.52-inch sensor with 0.7 μm pixels is also rumoured to find its way into the Galaxy S27 Ultra. But a possible change here can be a more pronounced camera bump at the rear, making the phone have a marginally thicker profile.
Specs and performance as expected
Under the bonnet, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could be driven by Qualcomm's next-gen 3 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip, backed up by a more advanced vapour cooling system for enhanced long-term performance. Power could be supplied by a 5,000mAh battery, but this time with 60W fast charging support — something better than what has previously been offered.
There is a design update in the pipeline
Samsung can also be redesigning the back with a departure from the floating lens design and settling for a pill-shaped camera island, more reminiscent of the look of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Launch timeline and potential lineup adjustments
If rumours are to be believed, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S26 Ultra in January 2026, and two more models. Speculations suggest the company may surprise everyone by removing the standard Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Plus and introducing a Galaxy S26 Pro and Galaxy S26 Edge instead.
