Google I/O 2024 Event: Soon after introducing text and image generation models, Google forayed into AI-powered video generation space at this year's I/O. Amid a host of AI updates, VideoFX debuted as an experimental video generation tool powered by Veo, Google DeepMind's generative AI model. It can generate 1080p resolution clips that can span beyond one minute.
According to Google, VideoFX will let users turn an "idea into a video clip with just a text prompt", something similar to what OpenAI teased with Sora. Powered by DeepMind's most capable video generation model, it will allow users to generate content with "emotional nuance across visual styles and striking cinematic effects". The tool will also ship with a Storyboard mode to let users describe scene-by-scene itinerary and add music to the output.

Google claims Veo can understand terms like "timelapse", "aerial shots" and more. Marketed as a tool for "quick explorations and creative control", VideoFX will be available in private preview in the US via a waitlist. The company said it will bring Veo's capabilities to YouTube Shorts (and other offerings) in the future. Besides the new tool, Google introduced new updates for ImageFX and MusicFX.
Speaking of ImageFX, Google added editing controls (available today) to allow users to add, remove or change the output by brushing over select elements in an image. Further, the image generation tool will add DeepMind's advanced image generation model Imagen 3, for added photorealism and precise text rendering. You can join the waitlist to try out the upgraded capability.
Today we’re introducing Imagen 3, @GoogleDeepMind’s most capable image generation model yet. It understands prompts the way people write, creates more photorealistic images and is our best model for rendering text. #GoogleIO pic.twitter.com/6bjidsz6pJ

As for MusicFX, the company highlighted the DJ mode to let users "mix beats by combining genres, instruments and more". Google also said the latest release introduces My Library to let users save content. Plus, it can let users review and remix favourites. These updates will be available in over 110 countries and 37 languages.
