AFTER major modifications to "RCS" branding and read receipt indicators in recent weeks, Google, a California-based technology company, has now included the contact's profile photo at the top of discussions in messages for Android.

By tapping a contact's name in the app bar in Messages, users have always had the option to open Google Contacts; however, the company is now emphasising this feature by also displaying the contact's profile image, according to a report by 9to5Google.

When a group conversation's detail page is opened by tapping on a space, the image that shows there is the same one that is displayed in the conversation's main list.

According to the report, avatars appear in the centre of iMessage, whereas Telegram and Facebook Messenger both place them on the left. As part of this modification, the magnifying glass icon has been removed, and "Search" has been added to the overflow menu.

Meanwhile, Google began offering end-to-end encryption in group conversations in January to users of the messaging app who had signed up for the test program. One-on-one texts received via Google Messages will now be encrypted, ensuring their privacy and security and ensuring that only the sender and receiver may read them.

When communicating with someone who has enabled the RCS (Rich Communication Services) chat features, the Google Messaging app already offers end-to-end encryption. However, this functionality has only been available for messages sent between two individuals and not for group conversations.

In the meantime, Google seems to be working on different services in order to enhance the user experience. Recently, Google announced that it would be integrating artificial intelligence into Gmail and Docs which would allow users to write. However, the company has announced that the feature will be available for a select set of users first.
