India has seen a massive positive change in terms of technology, connectivity and even the devices we use to connect. In the very beginning, people used to make phone calls using wired landline telephones and switchboard operators. Those who did not have the option of a landline visited the PCOs for making important calls. But now, all phone calls, messages and even voice mails are accessible with one touch because of mobile phones.

Smartphones, connectivity and other basic functions, which were earlier not possible on a regular basis because of the resources, are now easily accessible within a few years. The transformation shows how India has transitioned from abrupt landline telephone signals to 5G signals with super fast internet at your fingertips, that too, at unbelievable prices.

Here is how India has made its journey from G to 5G within a few years:

Evolution Of Telecom:

India experienced its inaugural cellular technology generation (1G) in the 1980s, witnessing a notable advancement in connectivity. Speed, reliability, and connectivity were the keywords associated with progress. The first-generation technology primarily enabled analogue voice communication.

The subsequent era, marked by the second generation (2G) technology in the 1990s, introduced mobile data services, SMS texting, and digital voice communication. Despite expectations for faster speeds, the true leap occurred with the third-generation (3G) technology in the early 2000s.

Remember purchasing data coupons for using mobile data? That was the time when the country was transitioning its way to 4G. This phase also introduced concepts like video calling, elevating expectations significantly. The year 2012 marked the advent of the fourth generation (4G) technology, delivering swifter data transfer rates, enhanced call quality, and internet connectivity. The emergence of 4G technology facilitated high-definition video streaming, online gaming, and rapid web browsing, completely transforming mobile phone usage dynamics.

In 2016, Jio with a revolutionary strategy entered the market by offering free subscriptions, calling and other services and within two years, the company gained 200 million subscribers. It also brought down the subscription prices to an all-time low and is said to be one of the reasons why India saw a spike in Internet connectivity.

India Transitioning To 5G:

Fifth-generation (5G), which will provide faster data transmission speeds than 4G and enable the development of cutting-edge applications like virtual and augmented reality, connected vehicles, and the Internet of Things (IoT), is now being introduced in the nation. Even while some consumers have already switched to the 5G networks provided by Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, there is still a lot of uncertainty around the adoption of new technology.
